Here is the Journey of Jax the Juggernaut
Jax recently joined our family - this 3 year old French Bulldog is the face of neglect and abuse. Injured by a previous caretaker and left untreated for at least 6 months with a stage 5 disc injury (IVDD) he was paralyzed from the waist down. We couldn't turn our backs on this little guy! With our belief in the power of cannabinoids and physical therapy, we have hope ...
For some time we have kept our eyes, ears and hearts open for dog that was truly in need of a new home that would get along with our other dogs and be gentle with them as they are small and older pets. A couple of attempts just didn't work out and then an interesting situation presented itself. Jax, a paralyzed French Bulldog had been removed from a bad situation in Georgia and was in a temporary home in Orlando but couldn't stay...
After a few conversations we felt that we had the ability to give Jax a chance. After hearing his story of having a family then losing them, being left with someone for an undetermined amount of time who ultimately hurt him and leaving him with a grave injury paralyzing him from the base of his rib cage back. After waiting over 6 months, the person unloaded Jax who made his way to Orlando.
Still unsure of the scope of his capabilities, we made the trip to get Jax and bring him HOME.
Jax's lower half had wasted away and he had no muscle mass left along his spine or down his legs; muscle atrophy was in full effect! Our first few days included a lot of baths, figuring out what wraps/diapers he needed, keeping his little lifeless legs safe, meeting the other dogs, learning that there is more food where that came from and building trust - the foundation needed for the very intimate life that you have with a special needs pet.
Jax was able to see a local veterinarian known for her experience and expertise in diagnostics, rehabilitation, recovery and alternative support for spinal issues. We were devastated when we heard very honest words that despite all resources at hand, a dog with this level of 'full depaining' of an IVDD injury had a very low chance of any recovery and then to add that this injury was left untreated for so long, there was no hope.
Knowing that we do not know all that cannabinoids are capable of we still had hope. After all, #OwnYourHealth is what we say...
We had already started Swamp Yeti Products CBD Elixir orally and now knowing that there wasn't any damage we could do, we also started to apply it topically along Jax's spine where you can see the traumatized raised area.
Without hardly any muscles left, we slowly started with reflex stimulation to cause muscle contractions. I wanted to get some stability around his knees before attempting to put any weight on his legs. Additionally we stretched his joints, tendons and ligaments along with massaged and muscle stimulated, we slowly started to work and build his muscle strength.
On Day 3, we slowly started to work on muscle stimulation, flexibility and stability. We could start to see his little muscle quiver but we is unable to support any weight, his toes buckle and he simply falls when not supported. As sad as it looks, he is in no pain at all and he doesn't mind the work that we are doing.
